Royal couple Prince William and his wife Kate will be in Boston later this month to deliver the keynote address at the Harvard University Women’s Forum of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence. They will also have the pleasure of a meeting with the president of Harvard University, during which time they will meet with some of the most prominent women in the United States.

Harvard, Massachusetts’ flagship institution, is a beacon for the liberal arts and offers a rare education to students from all over the globe. The university is also home to the world-renowned and Harvard University-affiliated Berkman Center for Internet and Society, a leading research and public policy institute of over 170 active researchers and practitioners who explore the impact of the internet on our culture, society, economy, democracy, and governance.

At the age of 33, Prince William and wife Kate will become the first father and mother to visit Boston, and the town’s first British royal family since the late 18th century. They will be the guests of the Harvard Women’s Forum, an organization that seeks to increase the visibility of women in STEM fields — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — and to give women new pathways for advancement.

According to Harvard University President Lawrence Bacow, who will be accepting the Prince William and Kate’s visit as well as the Queen’s 90th birthday, the Princess is known internationally for her work on gender equality, her activism on human rights and her charitable works, while the Prince has brought attention to the University and the broader fields of science, technology, and society.

The Prince and Princess will meet with some remarkable individuals in their capacity to “promote gender equality, social justice, and the enhancement of all women’s human and societal rights,” according to an official statement from Harvard. “It was a privilege to have them in our program,” said Harvard University President Lawrence Bacow. “They will tell us about how women have struggled for a long time, and now we are seeing the beginning of the way forward.”
