Porter Ranch teenager DeQuan Walker killed in car crash is identified
Porter Ranch Police: Teen DeQuan Walker, who died after being hit by an SUV, was driving without a license at the time of the crash
Porter Ranch, Calif. —
The police chase that took DeQuan Walker’s life turned violent as he tried to flee officers who were chasing him through the car wash.
Police say he was trying to elude them.
“At this point there was a chase with a vehicle that was turning left on the dirt area right behind the (car wash),” said Lt. Jeff Payne.
They found Walker with a single gunshot wound to the chest, and he died at a hospital Wednesday morning.
“The medical personnel said that there is no doubt that the gun was fired,” said Payne.
Two other teens who were with him were also shot, but survived.
Investigators say there was a struggle before Walker was shot. The boys were arrested in connection to the crash.
“These kids were sitting in the vehicle. The suspects were jumping out and attacking them,” said Payne.
Police say two other people are being held on unrelated charges in the crash.
“At this time, it is not a known threat out there and we have not been able to find them,” said Payne.
The police say they’re trying to figure out why someone would endanger someone else’s life.
“We are trying to figure out if maybe this person was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time,” said Payne.
